1. Introduction
Welcome to MingleMaps. This Privacy Policy explains how MingleMaps ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "Services").
MingleMaps is a location-based dating application that facilitates real-world connections by allowing users to discover and match with people at the same physical venues in real-time. By using our Services, you consent to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
When you create an account and use MingleMaps, you provide us with:
- Account Information: Name, email address, phone number, date of birth, and login credentials
- Profile Information: Profile photos, phone number, and social media. Social media and phone number are not verified.
- Payment Information: Billing address and payment details for premium subscriptions (processed securely through Apple's App Store)
- User Reports: If you report another user, we collect the reason for the report, any additional details you provide, and optionally your contact email for follow-up
2.2 Location Information
Location data is essential to how MingleMaps works.
We collect:
- Precise GPS Location: Your real-time location when you check into venues ("hotspots") and during compass-guided meetings with matches
- Venue Check-In Data: Which venues you visit and when, to enable matching with other users at the same location
- Relative Location During Meetings: Direction and distance to your match during compass navigation (we share relative position, not exact coordinates, with your match)
- Interaction Data: Records of likes sent and received, matches, rejections, and users you have blocked
- Block Lists: When you block a user, both your user ID and theirs are stored to enforce mutual invisibility
Important: You can disable location access in your device settings, but this will prevent core app functionality including venue check-ins and matching.
2.3 Information Collected Automatically
When you use MingleMaps, we automatically collect:
- Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and mobile network information
- Usage Data: App interactions, features used, session duration, and in-app actions
- Log Data: IP address, access times, app crashes, and system activity
- Sensor Data: Compass/magnetometer data for navigation features
2.4 Information from Third Parties
- Apple Sign-In: If you register using Apple Sign-In, we receive your name and email address (or a relay email if you choose to hide your email)
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information for the following purposes:
- Providing Core Services: Enabling venue check-ins, matching you with other users, facilitating compass-guided meetings.
- User-to-User Connections: Showing you profiles of other users at your location
- Safety & Moderation: Enforcing blocks between users to ensure mutual invisibility, reviewing user reports to investigate policy violations, and taking action against users who violate our Terms of Service
- Account Management: Creating and maintaining your account, processing subscriptions, and providing customer support
- Communications: Sending push notifications about matches, messages, and important updates
- Trust & Safety: Maintaining records of blocked users and reports to protect the community
- Advertising: Displaying ads through Google AdMob to support our free tier (premium subscribers see fewer ads)
- Improvements: Analyzing usage patterns to improve app functionality, fix bugs, and develop new features
- Legal Compliance: Meeting legal obligations and protecting against fraud or security threats
4. How We Share Your Information
4.1 With Other Users
MingleMaps is designed to connect people. When you use our Services:
- Your profile (name, photos) are visible to other users at the same venue
- When you match with someone, they can see your profile and choose to mingle with you in person. This has to be approved by both users.
- During compass meetings, your match receives relative direction and distance information (not your exact GPS coordinates)
4.2 With Service Providers
We share information with third-party service providers who help us operate MingleMaps:
- Supabase: Authentication, database storage, and cloud storage for profile photos
- Google AdMob: Advertising services (may collect device identifiers for ad personalization)
- Apple: Authentication (Apple Sign-In) and payment processing (App Store subscriptions)
- Analytics Providers: Understanding app usage and performance
4.3 With Your Consent
We share information when you direct us to, including:
- Sharing contact information with matches after a mingling session
4.4 For Legal Reasons
We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of MingleMaps, our users, or others.
5. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit and at rest
